Meet Alexandra – a Waldorf homeschool educator
Alexandra is the creator of Life of Mummy, she is a mother to 8 children, a Waldorf homeschool educator and the devoted wife to her husband, Ashley. They live in rural Wiltshire, England with their chickens.
It was while at university studying for her degree in Child Development that Alexandra began to grow a keen interest in studying different methods of raising and educating children. Alexandra now homeschools her children using the Waldorf homeschool approach. This method of education is holistic and encourages children to recognise that they are as much a part of nature as any other creature upon this earth. Nature works in cycles or rhythms which plays an integral part within a Waldorf education and way of life.
Alexandra created the Life of Mummy blog and YouTube channel as a way of connecting to other mothers, to inspire and encourage. Homeschooling can sometimes be a lonely experience for mothers but having an online community can help negate that issue. Alexandra hopes by developing this community, other mothers will feel more able to raise and educate their children with confidence and purpose.
“Our highest endeavour must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, the sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility- these three forces are the very nerve of education.” – Rudolf Steiner
A lot of Alexandra’s time is spent with her children outside enjoying nature, they live in a small home with minimal belongings trying to live as natural a life as possible. Food is cooked from scratch and much time is taken up with handcrafts such as sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting and so on. There is also a great amount of time spent reading, multiple books are read aloud to the children every day.
You can get to know Alexandra better by reading about her morning routine.
