DIY Beeswax Block Crayons

I love the Stockmar beeswax block crayons but let's be real, they are pretty expensive especially when you have lots of children that would all like a set of their own!  I decided I'd have a go at making my own beeswax block crayons, they're non-toxic, cheap and really easy to make so I'd call
that a win win win situation 😆

If you want to do this fun craft with your little ones here's how it goes:

Equipment

Aluminium foil
Saucepan
Bowl
grater
spoon

Method

  1. Get a small piece of foil, lightly coat with coconut oil.
  2. Mould the foil around an eraser or old block crayon or anything of a similar shape and size.
  3. Put some water into your saucepan and bring to a simmer, place bowl on top.
  4. Grate some soap.
  5. In the bowl add 7g of beeswax and stir until melted.
  6. Slowly add 7g of the grated soap, stir until melted.
  7. Add some food colouring, stir until combined.
  8. Pour into your prepared foil mould.
  9. Leave to cool.
  10. Remove from mould.
And yes that's it!  So simple.  The results we had were great.  I compared them to our Stockmar crayons and was astonished that some of our crayons performed better.  Take a look at the video below to see what I mean and also to see the whole process of making them.

If you have any questions then feel free to ask me below.  If you do have a go at making your own I'd love to know how it went.

Love,
Alexandra xx
